Overview
The University of Southampton is considered to be one of the research hubs of the UK. It is a member of the prestigious Russell Group and continues to live up to its high reputation by offering a challenging and invigorating academic experience to all its students. Southampton’s distinguished heritage can be traced as far back as 1862; it has come a long way since and currently delivers a wide range of courses through more than 20 academic schools.
The School of Social Sciences under the Faculty of Law, Arts and Social Sciences offers a variety of internationally recognised undergraduate and postgraduate (MSc, MPhil and PhD) courses.
The lively environment at the University is home to over 20,000 students of which 2,000 are international from more than 100 different countries. Southampton is just over one hour from central London, and students have the opportunity to learn and work in a place surrounded by areas of natural beauty, including New Forest and the Isle of Wight. The University is also well connected to the rest of the UK and Europe through superb road, rail, air and sea links.
The School offers tremendous support to international students and has a tradition of welcoming students from Malaysia to their ever-growing community of social scientists. Currently there are 247 students from Malaysia enrolled in undergraduate, postgraduate taught and postgraduate research programmes. The University works closely with professional representatives in Malaysia who guide students about studying at Southampton and living in the UK. The representatives also help students with their application and pre-arrival preparations.
Collaboration with Malaysian institutions
The University of Southampton collaborates with several Malaysian institutions in a bid to encourage Malaysian students to spend their academic life at the University. The University has a strategic partnership with the University of Malaysia and has links with the University Kebangsaan Malaysia, the International Medical University as well as faculty links with most universities in Malaysia.
