The Aston University’s friendly and secure campus is located in the centre of the vibrant city of Birmingham, Britain’s second city. One of Europe’s liveliest and most welcoming cities, Birmingham is internationally recognised as a leader in leisure, entertainment, business, shopping, industry and sport. It offers a fantastic student life and a large choice of shopping centres, nightlife, clubs, cafes and restaurants. Around 60,000 students live in Birmingham, which is a lively and multicultural city, and is a major centre for business and industry. As a city that personifies modernism, it offers striking squares, shopping arcades, pubs, museums, theatres and galleries among other attractions.
Birmingham is situated in the Midlands, in the centre of the UK, which makes it easily accessible by road, rail or air. It is only 90 minutes away from London or Manchester by train and close to places of historic interest such as Shakespeare’s Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford. With its own international airport, Birmingham is also very conveniently located for travel to the rest of the UK, Europe and other destinations around the world.
Accommodation
The University offers 2,117 comfortable, convenient, on-campus places split between three towers, four low-rise houses and Lakeside residences. All of the accommodation is comprised of single study bedrooms in a self-catering flat, with the choice of en-suite or standard accommodation. Accommodation facilities include launderettes, satellite television lounges and 24 hour security, whilst residence tutors and wardens provide pastoral support for students. Heating, electricity and cleaning charges are included in the rent. Wi-Fi internet access is available via an Internet service provider for a small charge.
Aston University guarantees University campus accommodation to International students from outside European Union for the duration of their studies.
The University is sensitive to students' religious and cultural needs and can offer single sex flats, subject to demand. There are a number of specially adapted rooms on campus for students with disabilities.
The University is currently building a brand new accommodation on campus, with 1,400 new rooms becoming available for the start of the next academic year, September 2010.
