Aberdeen is vibrant, diverse and welcoming.
I chose Aberdeen because the Languages Department has a very good reputation. The courses they offer are varied and there is a good balance between the language and literature elements of each course.
Living in halls of residence in first year was definitely memorable! I met so many new people and had so much fun that the year just flew by. As a languages student, another memorable experience has to be my compulsory year abroad in third year. At first, going away for a year is a scary thought, but it was a fantastic experience and it really increased my confidence. I was president of the Hispanic society for a year. There's a huge amount of different clubs and societies on offer and it's really worth getting involved and trying out something new - my favourite has been salsa dancing! There are plenty of good places to go on a night out and it's relatively cheap compared to other cities. It's particularly good for lively and cosy pubs! Aberdeen is not expensive to live in! The accommodation prices are pretty average and there are good student deals on bus travel throughout the city. Student discounts are also available in a lot of shops and restaurants so you can still have fun, even on a budget!
