Course description:

You are employed by one of Bishop Grosseteste's partner schools, usually on a one year contract and in a supernumerary capacity in a subject relevant to the National Curriculum. You will be assigned a school-based mentor and a University College-based tutor who will guide and support your professional development throughout the year. An individual training programme will be tailored to your needs and designed to enable you to develop the understanding, knowledge and skills you will need to become an effective teacher. It will take account of existing strengths and areas for development. An equally important part of your training will take place at the University College. These sessions will provide opportunities to meet with other trainees and to reflect on your school-based experience. Your training will include: an individual training plan; regular University College-based training sessions including learning to teach across the 11-18 age ranges. a minimum of nine tutor visits throughout the year; regular meetings with other GTPs; regular meetings with your University College tutor to monitor and guide progress.

Entry requirements:

GCSEs at grade C or above (or equivalent) including English language and Mmthematics; degree at a 2.2. classification or above in a relevant subject; experience of working within a mainstream school, either voluntary or paid work; the support of a school prepared to employ the applicants as an unqualified teacher.
